Episode 3: CAESAR'S ESCAPE

This story is inspired by real events that took place

in the struggle between Julius Caesar and Pompey,

as well as Caesar's encounter with Cleopatra.

Summary of the previous episode: Julius Caesar has gone in search of Pompey. He learns that Pompey has taken refuge with the young Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII in Alexandria.

When Caesar meets with the Pharaoh to ask him where Pompey is, the Pharaoh has a basket brought in: inside is Pompey's head. Indeed, on the advice of his close advisors and the Egyptian General Achillas, Pompey was killed by them upon his arrival in Egypt.

After reflection, whether out of calculation or grief, Caesar is enraged by this barbaric murder. He then meets Cleopatra for the first time, and she asks for his help in ruling Egypt alongside her brother and husband, Ptolemy XIII.

He took the opportunity to give the young Pharaoh an ultimatum: agree to rule with Cleopatra. The young Pharaoh agreed, but told him it would take three months to organize this reign with two Pharaohs.

But after three months, nothing had been done. Worse, the Pharaoh was nowhere to be seen! He had gone to an oasis.

Caesar then ordered his general, Paulus Forticus, to go and find him in the oasis, along with a Roman century and cavalry.

But the Pharaoh, again acting on the advice of the Egyptian general Achillas, set a trap for Forticus. He annihilated the Roman century...

Despite this destruction, Paulus Forticus managed to capture the Pharaoh.
