Summary of the previous part: Julius Caesar set fire to part of Alexandria and surrounded the rest of the city to prevent Pharaoh's escape.
Panicked, Pharaoh asked his sister and wife, Cleopatra, what to do. She suggested sending Pharaoh's personal advisor, Pothin, and the tribune Septimius, in charge of relations between Egypt and Rome, to find a solution and, as a gesture of appeasement, release the Roman general, Paulus Forticus, who had been captured by the Egyptians during Caesar's flight.
Just as she was leaving, Cleopatra gave Pothin a message to deliver personally to Caesar. Upon reading it, Caesar learned that Pothin and Septimius were two of the three men who had orchestrated Pompey's death.
Julius Caesar sent the dead bodies of Pothin and Septimius back to Pharaoh as a response.
Meanwhile, the arrival of the Egyptian General Achillas, at the head of a relief army, along with an Egyptian fleet sailing up the Nile, was confirmed to Pharaoh.
Cleopatra sent her trusted confidante Amoukis to inform Caesar of the arrival of these reinforcements.
Immediately, Julius Caesar took steps to stop them by sending half of his Roman fleet to confront the Egyptian fleet and assumed command of a legion to face Achillas' relief army, which was arriving through the Desert Gate, northeast of Alexandria.
