She suggests sending Pothin, Pharaoh's special advisor, along with the tribune Septimius, in charge of relations between Rome and Egypt, to Caesar and propose peace. She also suggests, as a gesture of appeasement, releasing the Roman general Paulus Forticus, who had been taken prisoner during the pursuit of Caesar.
Pharaoh accepts Cleopatra's proposal. And just before leaving, she gives Pothin a letter to deliver personally to Caesar.
Upon arriving at Caesar's camp with Cleopatra's message, Julius Caesar discovers that she informs him a relief army is approaching northeast of the city and that he is facing two of Pompey's instigators.
