Summary of the previous part: The Egyptian General ACHILLAS has just learned from the young Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII that a messenger from Julius CAESAR is arriving to meet him in Alexandria. 

Upon hearing this news, CLEOPATRA asks her confidante AMOUKIS to spy on POTHIN and ACHILLAS.

  The next day, POTHIN intercepts Commander Paulus FORTICUS, Julius Caesar's messenger, at sea, informing him that General ACHILLAS is ready to meet him nearby.  

The Commander follows him…
