This story is inspired by historical events that took place during the Gallic Wars between Julius Caesar and the leader of the Gallic Tribal Alliance, Vercingetorix.

Part 12 : THE LAST CHANCE ASSAULT

Summary of the previous part: The Gallic Rescue Army attempted a first assault against the Romans with its cavalry, before realizing that the Roman fortifications were complex for cavalry movements along the ramparts, and that the defenses were numerous, including archers, infantry, Roman cavalry, and war machines.

Viridomaus, a Gallic chieftain of the Aedui tribe, assisted by Vercassivellaunus, the cousin of Vercingetorix, led the second attack with the Gallic infantry, using planks against the thickets filled with spikes and ladders to climb the ramparts.

After successfully climbing the ramparts, the Romans once again knew how to maneuver within their fortress and repel the Gauls...

The Gallic Rescue Army decided to retreat to limit the loss of its men...

VERCINGETORIX heard the roar of the fighting, but it was brief. He decided to kill the last horses of the Oppidum to eat them and thus restore the strength of the besieged Gauls so that they could, the next time, assist the Gallic Rescue Army during its attacks...

Indeed, the besieged Gauls were starving because they had almost nothing left to eat...
