 This story is inspired by true events that took place during the Gallic Wars between Julius Caesar and the Gallic leader Vercingetorix.

Summary of the previous part: Caesar has come to negotiate an alliance with Vercingetorix. 

Upon his arrival at Gergovia, Vercingetorix offers him a rooster, a symbol of the Gauls, representing combativeness, aggressiveness, spite, bravery, and pride. During a meal that same evening, Caesar proposes an alliance, which Vercingetorix refuses.

  Caesar then offers him his rooster, which he has cooked with Arverni wine... 

Stung, Vercingetorix returns to his oppidum, and Caesar immediately builds two camps in front of Gergovia to besiege it.
