Summary of the previous section: The Roman army faces a horde of Gauls.  

A Gallic cavalry reinforcement prevents the pincer maneuver from working.  

It is decided to retake the defensive line to consider another attack position.

The Defensive Circle Position (ORBIS): The ORBIS was a defensive circle maneuver that allowed troops to face the enemy wherever they were. 

It was only used in emergencies, against numerically superior armies or those with larger cavalry forces.
