Part 6: The Pincer Position

Summary of the previous part: After forcing the Gauls back, the Romans continued their harassment of the Gallic front lines.
They had just established the spur position (CUNEUS) to break through the Gallic line, but it had failed. The Roman positions reformed...
The Pincer Position (FORFEX): This took the opposite shape of the CUNEUS. A sort of V, except that the ends were closer together, reminiscent of a pincer movement.
One of the maneuvers used to achieve this position was to slowly advance the central line while the light infantry wings formed into columns and advanced more quickly, before reforming in line until they surrounded the enemy.
