PART 2: The God SOBEK
Summary of the previous part: Cleopatra traveled to the Valley of the Ptolemies for a celebration in memory of her brother, Ptolemy XIII, who died in January 47 BC. There, she learned that the High Priest, the highest-ranking official in the Egyptian clergy, had discovered that someone had emptied her brother's tomb of all the riches contained in the burial chamber. He also informed her that he alone knew of these events, as he had eliminated those who had accompanied him in this discovery. Cleopatra immediately had him executed, for in fact, it was she who had taken the riches! She thus eliminated one of the two people who had discovered what had happened in her brother's burial chamber and who could have informed other Egyptian dignitaries. This could have caused a scandal at the Egyptian Royal Court…
At the same time, Julius Caesar learned that Pharnaces II, King of the Bosporus and Pontus (the area between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov), had taken advantage of the Roman Civil War to reconquer territories lost (in northern modern-day Turkey) in 64 BC by his father, Mithridates VI.
Worse still, during his reconquest, this king had killed Roman colonists and annihilated a Roman army that tried to stop him. Julius Caesar decided to lead two legions to arrest him and retake the recaptured territories…
