PART 7 : The charge of the egyptian chariots
Summary of the previous part: Roman General Paulus Forticus was tasked by Julius Caesar with finding Pharaoh, who was believed to have fled to the Izbat Oasis, fifty kilometers from Alexandria.
He
set off with eight cohorts of legionaries and about forty cavalrymen,
taking advantage of the night to make the march less arduous thanks to
the cooler temperatures.
Arriving there at dawn, he discovered that Pharaoh was not there.
However, a royal tent had been erected the previous day by his soldiers.
Paulus Forticus was convinced that Pharaoh
would come and decided to establish himself in the oasis so that his
legionaries and cavalrymen could rest and refresh themselves.
But no sooner had he arrived than Pharaoh
appeared on an Egyptian war chariot with an entire army that surrounded
his cohorts, with other war chariots on top of the two dunes
overlooking the oasis.
