Summary of the previous part: Prince Shing-Lou was appointed Ambassador of the Emperor Yuandi, ruler of the Middle Kingdom, and given a special mission during his meeting with Julius Caesar.
The Chinese General Wou Tchi accompanied him.
A Roman tutor, fluent in Mandarin, was tasked with teaching them Latin during their 220-day journey through the East.
Upon arriving in Yining, the Prince's convoy was ambushed by a local chieftain.
His aim was to kill Prince Shing-Lou on the orders of the Chinese Lord Zhou Li Wan, who had ordered his lieutenant Tchang to set an ambush in a mountain pass.
The convoy was saved by mysterious figures who killed the archers who were about to assassinate the Prince.
After this ordeal in Yining, the Prince's convoy continued its journey.
