Season 2 - Caesar's Wrath

Episode 1: The Emissary 

Part 1: The ENCOUNTER

 

 The period: Late 52 to early 51 BC, Cleopatra VII, then about eighteen years old, shared in the power of her father, Ptolemy XII. 

A few months later, her father died, leaving a precise will: upon his death, he designated Cleopatra and her younger brother, Ptolemy XIII, about ten years her senior, as his successors. 

She would be married to him, as Ptolemaic custom stipulated that she could not rule alone. 

Her first three years of reign were difficult due to economic hardship: the famine of 50-48 BC, insufficient Nile floods, and a political struggle between the eunuch Pothinus and the Egyptian general Achilles, who sought to pit brother and sister against each other.
