Part 3 : THE WATER POINT

Summary of the previous part: The young Prince Shing-Lou has been appointed ambassador extraordinary by the Middle Emperor Yuandi to negotiate an agreement with the Romans. 

 A journey of over 200 days and more than 16,000 kilometers lies ahead. 

He is accompanied by the Emperor's General WOU TCHI, an officer who is accompanying him to learn Roman military techniques; Lieutenant Li Zuwu, an officer in his father's service who is in charge of his security; Marcus Spolicus, a Roman tutor who knows Mandarin and will teach them the Roman language; and Tchang, a lieutenant of Lord Zhou Li Wan, the very same man who negotiated the passages along the Silk Road. 

But Lord Zhou Li Wan is angry, for he would have preferred the Emperor to choose him for this mission and receive the reward that would be given to the young Prince's family if he succeeds.

  Lord Zhou Li Wan has also given precise instructions to his lieutenant Tchang: upon reaching the halfway point, Tchang should go on a reconnaissance mission with his men and meet a local chief to whom Zhou Li Wan has sent a message...
