Summary of the previous part: Pompey has few options left against Julius Caesar. He has been pushed back to the gates of the East.

His military advisors suggest three solutions: To launch a counter-offensive and rebuild his legions, he can either go to the Parthian kingdom, go to Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII of Egypt, or take refuge with Juba, the king of Numidia…

Pompey chooses to go to Egypt and sends General Labienus as a messenger to request help from the young Pharaoh, since Pompey enabled his father to regain power in 55 BC and maintain the Ptolemaic Dynasty.

The Pharaoh tells Pompey's messenger that he can come to Egypt, with his family and his personal guard.

However, the young Pharaoh's advisors warned him against this arrival, fearing the wrath of Julius Caesar, who had won many battles and could potentially win the Roman Civil War against Pompey. They offered him a solution. The Pharaoh agreed and sent Pothinus and General Achillas to confront Pompey's fleet.

Meanwhile, Caesar learned from Amoukis, an advisor to Cleopatra, that Pompey was leaving for Alexandria to seek the young Pharaoh's protection. Caesar immediately decided to go there as well with his own fleet.
