Part 10 : THE GUARD DOES NOT SURRENDER
>>> Link to the previous part by clicking here <<<
Summary of the previous part: Julius Caesar's army has succeeded in breaking through the first and second lines of Pompey's infantry.
The third and final line flees before the advance of Caesar's cavalry.
Caesar's catapults also hit the camp where Pompey commands his troops.
He decides to take refuge on his galley and orders his Personal Guard to remain in the camp and protect it to the death.
Pompey's infantry, having lost many soldiers, surrenders.
Julius Caesar does not execute them and pardons them.
All that remains is the camp of Pompey's general, Titus Labienus, to be captured.
The Pointed Advance (CUNEUM FORMATE): All cohorts formed a triangle in a pointed position. The point of the formation was facing the enemy.
Like
a pointed object that penetrates a wall, rather than a rectangular
object, the triangular advance allowed the lines to be broken through
and breached at several points.
The charge was preceded by a volley of missiles to weaken the advancing groups using catapults, scorpions, or javelins.
FYI: The eagle emblem was the most important possession of the legion and its loss was a terrible shame.
