Season 2 - Caesar's Wrath

Episode 3: ACHILLAS

Summary of the previous part: Julius Caesar saved his messenger, Paulus Forticus, whom he had sent to deliver a message to the Egyptian General Achilles.

  Paulus Forticus had fallen into a trap set for him by the Egyptian General Achilles near an Egyptian sanctuary. 

Achillas intended to kill Paulus Forticus's entire escort to tell Caesar that he owed him no explanation. Caesar had deployed numerous Roman cavalrymen who succeeded in destroying the army sent by Achillas. 

Pharaoh learned of his General's disastrous actions and, as punishment, sent him to guard the southernmost borders of Egypt and forbidden to ever appear before him again. 

 Pharaoh apologized to Paulus Forticus and told him to tell Caesar that he trusted him completely and that he understood his sister and wife, Cleopatra, was under Caesar's protection.

An AQUILA is an emblem of the Roman Legions. It is the most important and respected of the Legion's symbols. 

 

 Its loss is considered a disgrace.  

 For those who steal it, it is celebrated as a great event. 

 

This emblem normally never leaves the garrison and is carried during Roman marches (AGMEN) and precedes the march. 

 

However, the AQUILA could be carried into battle: protecting it provided additional motivation for the Roman legionaries in combat.
