Summary of the previous part: The Roman camp that is to receive Julius Caesar is in turmoil.  

 

War machines have been built in preparation for the upcoming battles.

The Scorpion: This is a war machine primarily intended to set fire to the wooden defenses of cities or thatched roofs.  

The arrows fired from this large bow were covered with rags soaked in pitch and set alight. The bow was tensioned with a winch. 

The Catapult: The Romans built their war machines on site.  

The catapult is a giant spoon that springs back suddenly, thanks to this very heavy counterweight. It can launch 80 kilos 500 to 1,000 meters.  

The onager's arm is stretched with a winch.
